Frequently Asked Questions
Find quick answers to common questions about our prefabricated shipping container homes, pricing, timelines, customization options, and what to expect from the construction process.
1. What is a container home?
A container home is a type of house built using recycled shipping containers as the main structure. Each container is carefully modified, insulated, and finished to create a comfortable, durable, and fully functional living space.
2. Why choose a container home over traditional construction?
Container homes are a great choice if you want a faster, more sustainable alternative to traditional construction. They typically require less material, generate less waste, and can be delivered and assembled in a shorter timeframe—all while offering a clean, modern design that stands out from a conventional home.
3. How customizable are container homes?
Container homes are extremely flexible. You can adjust the layout, combine multiple containers, select your preferred interior finishes, and incorporate options like larger windows, custom decks, or eco-friendly upgrades such as solar panels and rainwater collection systems.
4. Are container homes eco-friendly?
Yes, container homes can be a very eco-conscious choice. By reusing steel shipping containers, they help reduce waste and the demand for new building materials. On top of that, they can be designed with energy-efficient windows, insulation, solar power, and other green features, making them a more sustainable housing option overall.
5. What size options are available for container homes?
Container homes are available in several sizes depending on how many containers you combine. The most common base sizes are 20-foot and 40-foot shipping containers, which can be used individually for compact units or joined together to create larger floor plans.
6. Do container homes meet building codes and regulations?
Yes. Our container homes are engineered to comply with local building codes and regulations, just like a conventional house. We take care of the required plans, permits, and inspections to ensure your project is fully compliant and safe.
7. Are container homes suitable for all climates?
Container homes can be adapted for various climates. Proper insulation, HVAC systems, and other considerations can make them comfortable in hot or cold climates.
8. Do you use containers that have transported hazardous materials?
No. Containers that have carried hazardous materials are not used in our builds. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) enforces strict rules for transporting dangerous goods, and any container exposed to a chemical spill is removed from circulation and never released to the general market. We only work with safe, approved units suitable for residential use.
9. Is my container home built with a new or used container?
It’s your choice. Technically, all shipping containers have been used at least once, but we offer two main grades: “1-trip” containers, which are considered like-new with minimal wear, and cargo-worthy containers, which are structurally sound but may have minor cosmetic dents or dings on the exterior. Both options are safe and fully suitable for building your home.
10. What is the cost of building a container home?
The cost of a container home depends on several factors, including the size of the unit, floor plan, level of customization, finishes, and the location of your project. During the planning stage, we provide a clear, itemized estimate so you understand exactly what’s included. We also offer a pricing tool further down this page that lets you explore typical cost ranges for different container home options.
11. Do you have a showroom where I can come and see your models?
We don’t operate a traditional showroom, but we’re happy to schedule a visit by appointment. During your consultation, we can walk you through any models or projects currently under construction at our location so you can get a real-world feel for the space, finishes, and build quality.
12. Can you stack multiple containers together?
Yes, multiple containers can be stacked and combined to create larger, multi-story layouts. With proper engineering, structural design, and budget planning, we can safely stack containers to achieve the look and square footage you’re aiming for.
13. How do I get started?
Getting started is simple. Reach out to our team to schedule an initial consultation, and we’ll walk you through the process step by step. We’ll talk about your goals, budget, preferred model or layout, and timeline, then outline a custom plan for your container home so you know exactly what to expect next.
